TOWN Neighborhood Picks: Jill Camac’s West Village

Jill Camac Town Residential

Jill Camac moved to Horatio Street 13 years ago and was thrilled to come back to her old ‘hood’ when she started with TOWN last February. A true neighborhood expert and current Chelsea resident, Jill has been in Manhattan real estate for a decade. Check out her favorite West Village experiences!

1) Favorite place to shop

  • Scoop – Check out the sales on the downstairs level at Scoop Street.
  • Calypso – Great for everyday pieces!

2) Best winter bars

  • Fedora
  • Minetta Tavern
  • Hudson Bar and Books – When I first moved to Horatio Street, it was the real meatpacking district with only a few bars and restaurants. This quickly became a neighborhood favorite and is still a classic for great cocktails.

3) Where to dine

I’m a huge fan (and owner) of Fatty Crab on Hudson Street. This restaurant and overall experience changed a lot for me. I had never had Malaysian food. It really took me out of my comfort zone to try such unusual and spicy food. If you haven’t been, it’s a totally unique experience. The cocktail menu and wines are great too!

Fatty Crab in the West Village
A Fatty Crab specialty, the Chili Crab – crab, chili and pullman toast.

If you’re looking for an amazing Italian meal these are two places with authentic cuisine and great ambiance. For “new” Italian my favorite is Dell ’Anima. If you’re looking for something a little more “old school” and rustic Piccolo Angelo is the perfect spot. There are no printed menus to preview. The owner comes to your table and tells you the menu, with a very heavy accent.

4) Saturday afternoon must-do’s

Brunch at Pastis! It’s always fun and has a great energy. I basically lived there when I first moved to the neighborhood.
