We are pleased to announce that TOWN Astor Place is now showcasing the acclaimed artwork of Irene Mamiye. Spearheaded by TOWN Interior Designer Haley Lankau, the collaboration and installation lends the perfect finishing touch to the newly painted and redesigned office.
“TOWN is committed to providing our Representatives with a world-class workspace,” shared Haley. “Art brings a creativity that transcends all interactions, and a warmth that fosters happiness and productivity.”
This installation upholds TOWN’s integral dedication to art, which has played a prominent role within the offices and culture since the firm’s inception. TOWN has most previously worked closely with breakthrough contemporary art company Twyla, which worked to curate a selection of twenty pieces to adorn the walls of TOWN Flatiron. TOWN has also notably worked with extraordinary artists such as illustrator James Gulliver Hancock, highly-acclaimed photojournalist Brian Hamill and historically celebrated photographers to adorn the offices with unrivaled creativity.
Irene Mamiye is a New York-based artist whose wide range of work incorporates photography, video and digital imaging techniques. Through light, color and movement, she blurs the distinctions between physical and virtual reality and employs intricate, labor-intensive processes to challenge what is expected of the photographic medium. Mamiye’s pieces are packed with art historical depth and pop culture abundance, all with undertones of playful yet mordant humor.
Mamiye’s extensive body of work, including digital images, videos, and furniture designs, has been widely exhibited across the United States. Her work is currently on view in the Aperture Foundation’s Photography is Magic, an exhibition curated by Charlotte Cotton, and was included in the landmark show The Edge of Vision (2009). Her work was part of the Museum of Art and Design’s Multiple Exposures: Jewelry and Photography (2014), and exhibited at SCOPE Art Fair, SELECT Fair (NYC), and Art Hamptons. Her work has also been featured in the following publications: Architectural Digest, Interior Design Magazine, Vanity Fair, People Magazine, Elle Décor and InStyle.
Born in Marseille, France, Mamiye immigrated to the U.S as an adolescent. She holds a BA in Photography and Global Studies from Gallatin New York University and an MFA in Lens Arts from the School of Visual Arts in New York.
TOWN is thrilled to be showcasing Irene Mamiye’s work, both to support the company’s dedication to artists as well as to maintain a beautiful and luxurious office culture.
Be sure to visit the Astor Place office to see her work, and visit her website, in the meantime!
