New York Passive House is offering the rare opportunity to examine the building science behind the construction of one of its homes. Still in the works, 81 Summit Street (a 2.5-hour drive from Manhattan) will ultimately stand as the transformation of a 1960’s-era ranch house into a no-energy cost, carbon-free, 2-story vacation retreat. The home will combine existing and new construction with passive house measures including air barrier placement, thick insulation and high-performance windows. At the Open House, attendees can meet with the architect, building science engineer and solar panel designer to discover just how this sustainable creation is possible!
